Spring Break

Hello everyone. I have finally decided to post again, now that I have some free time.

My life has been crazy recently. From insane amounts of schoolwork and tests to BSU events to DiscipleNows to throwing up, I have not had much time for blogging. But, now that I am on Spring Break, I have time!

I'll go through some of the recent highlights of my existence:
  • I was very fortunate to participate in a DiscipleNow in Lucedale, MS about a month ago. The traveling band from the BSU, Drawn Together, was asked to play, and the band asked me to go along to run video lyrics (using ProPresenter, my new favorite software of all time). As a part of the weekend, we were also asked to be group leaders for the students. I was placed with seventh and eighth graders, and we had a great time. As a part of any great DNow, they got me to dance to a Wii game at 2 am one night. Behold:

(If this video says that it is private, please let me know in a comment. I have changed the privacy settings, and it should be viewable by everybody.)

Anyway, the people from Agricola Baptist Church are some of the nicest people you could ever meet, and if you're ever in the area, I would recommend visiting that church. I learned a lot about the importance of being a role model to younger kids (even though they were only about five years younger than me). I really hope I get to go on more DNow trips next year.
  • I have been going through the process of applying for BSU Leadership Team and Family Group Leader in the past few weeks. I really hope to become the Tech Team Coordinator with the Leadership Team. Also, I'm hoping to be a Family Group Leader for our incoming freshmen and transfer students in the Fall. I'll let you know how that goes.
  • My new favorite website is Stuff Christians Like. A parody of Stuff White People Like, it satirizes our traditional churches while keeping a respectful tone. You'll have to read it for yourself to get the full idea. The author of the site, Jon Acuff, is also releasing a book in a few weeks. I would recommend you start at the Archives for some of his classics.
  • I finally have a Bluetooth headset.
  • Last Monday, I had the thrills of having a wonderful stomach virus. I am normally the type who has a solid stomach; I can usually eat just about anything or ride any thrill ride without vomiting. However, a strain of bacteria took hostage of me. It captured me during my last Chemistry lab. I had felt nauseous throughout the day, but began feeling quite ill during lab. After burning some food items (particularly, a Cheeto, marshmallow, walnut, and a Froot Loop) to determine the caloric content, I felt the need to visit the potty. Sparing the gory details, I threw up three times that day and had to miss classes. Cody, my good friend who lives across the hallway from me, had to get some medicine for me since I couldn't get out of bed. Luckily, I felt better the next day and began eating solid food on Wednesday. I lost weight since I lost about 5,000 calories.

(Wasn't that a thrilling bullet point?!)
  • Two other gentlemen and I have decided to get an apartment in Starkville next school year. The details are still tentative, so I won't elaborate yet.
  • Also, I decided not to work for Student Life this summer for personal reasons, namely, the time commitment (10 weeks without visiting home). As a result, I am on the job hunt here in Memphis. I have a few leads, and I have applied for an internship with the National Weather Service in Memphis, but the likelihood of me getting that position is pretty slim. I have an interview with some people that I'm pretty excited about on Thursday. I'll let you know if that goes well.
Well, there's all the main things going on in my life right now. (Wouldn't a grammarian like to correct that last sentence!) Hopefully I'll post again tomorrow!

Today's Picks:
  • TV Show: Glee, simply because it was announced that Lady Gaga will be guest-starring sometime in the future. The second half of the first season will start in April.
  • Food: Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuit. Heaven on a biscuit.
  • Music: none to speak of. I really didn't listen to any music today. Sad.
  • Humorous Moment: Connor, speaking about one of his professor: "It was like someone stuck a two-by-four in his pants, turned it sideways, and said 'There's his butt!'"
