February 26, 1935 - April 8, 2009
Roy W. Hughes, Jr. passed away after a lengthy illness in the Baptist Hospital in Little Rock on Wednesday, April 8, 2009. He was born February 26, 1935 in Greenwood, MS to Grace Suggs Hughes and Roy W. Hughes, Sr. Preceding him in death are his parents and brother, Sam D. Hughes of Laurel, MS.
Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Betty Snell Hughes; children, Pete (Marilyn) of Brandon, MS, Kit of New Orleans, LA, Stephanie of Pearl, MS and Steven (Missy) of Germantown, TN. Also, five grandchildren: Lauren, Wayne, Kate, Landon and Jake.
After serving in the Army, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, KY Roy lived in the Mississippi delta most of his life. His love of the mountains and music brought him to Mountain View to retire in 1997. While in Greenville he enjoyed singing particularly with a gospel quartet. For many years he was active in the Red Cross dinner theater, this was an annual fundraiser for that chapter enabling them to buy needed equipment for disaster relief.
He was a plant manager for Heinz and Chico San, a volunteer for numerous charities, but most of all he was a good husband, father and friend.

Visitation is Noon - 2 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Foothills Baptist Church, Sylamore Avenue, Mtn. View.
Funeral service is 2 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Foothills Baptist Church with Bro. Paul Lancaster and Bro. Brian Wilkie officiating and interment in Mtn. View Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jerry Jensen, James Ramey, Paul Higginbotham, Robert Ross, David Kaufman and Claud Watters.
